Christmas Poem

High expectations

It's almost dark
let christmas start,
look everywhere
he's got to be here.

Prancer's hungry
need some food,
the gift's must be ready
Wrapped and glued.

Empty bed
Santa's in his sled,
smiling to the night
do you see the blinking light?

Time is here
open presents everywhere,
another sock
what a shock.

Take down the decorations
i guess i had to high expectations,
all in all I got some socks to wear
now it's time to look forward to next year.

26. November

English class 26. november 2010 were interesting. We learned about different types of English. Indian, Chinese ad Japanese English were the main subjects. We learned why people in these countries need to speak English. For an example we learned about Indian Call Centers which employs thousands of Indians and how these employees  need to speak English without any trace of their mother tongue.

We also learned about how japan has changed how the world sees them from ''childish and immature'' to the leading country in technology. We have learned about Japanese comics or ''Manga'' and Japanese animation called ''Anime''. I think this English class were one of the best we have had, because i could work in whatever manner i saw fit for myself.

I learned a lot this class(it was a good use of time). I learned a lot of things i find interesting, like for an example why franchises like Pokemon and Digimon is as famous as it is(i probably find this interesting since i used to be a big fan when i were young.) When i worked i worked with my sidekick(Robin to my batman if you will). We read the texts, did the tasks, and succeeded with a smile on our faces. Even though neither of us could access the one note file and write how we worked, i hope this is an acceptable way to do so.

Facebook hits exam results

I read an article about Facebook affecting exam results. The article focused on a test on students during school time. They looked on the students using Facebook during their school classes(even if they just had it open without looking at it more than once) and the students not using Facebook. The students with minimal Facebook use scored 20% higher on their exams than the students heavy users of Facebook. Students have been asked and most of them says they don't think Facebook is affecting their school work. This have now been proven wrong. The statement that Teenagers can work on several things at once have now been called in to question. I personally believe the use of Facebook during class is a big problem, even though i at times do it myself.

"While people may think constant task-switching allows them to get more done in less time, the reality is it extends the amount of time needed to carry out tasks and leads to more mistakes." - Professor Paul Kirschner.  This is a comment by a respected professor. What he says is very true. Most teens believe as far as i know that multitasking helps you do things faster. It has though been proven by psychiatrist and other researchers that people in any age have problems with switching what you are doing often.
The test was taken on 219 students from the age of 19 - 54. Facebook users scored a 3.06 out of four while the non-Facebook students scored a 3.82. The article itself was written very well and understandable with relatively mature English, but still in a sense that most English speakers can understand it either they speak English as a 1. or 2. Language.

This should have been posted in week 37, sorry for the delay

Kite runner... so far

I started reading The Kite Runner a few days ago, the book is mostly interesting. I haven't read far enough for it to make me excited. I've read the book before so i know exactly what's going to happen, this takes away most of the excitement in the book. Still, i know the book will entertain me when i really get into it.
so far, the main character Amir has been hanging around with his best friend/servant Hassan. Amir and Hassan has mostly been talking about the upcoming kite competition where Amir controls the kit and Hassan is the kite runner. through the parts i've read so far, Amir act as if Hassan is only hes servant.
That's how far i have read. by the way, there is some kinds of war going on, i don't really know what's going on yet.

Erin B

Erin Brockovich was an unemployed single mother of three children who, after losing a personal injury lawsuit against a doctor in a car accident she was in, asks her lawyer, Edward Masry, if he can find her a job in compensation for the loss. Ed gives her work as a file clerk in his office, and she runs across some files on a pro bono case involving medical records in real-estate files and the company PG&E offering to purchase the home of Hinkley, California resident Donna Jensen.
Erin begins digging into the particulars of the case, convinced that the facts simply do not add up, and persuades Ed to allow her further research. After investigation, she discovers a systematic cover-up of the industrial poisoning of the town of Hinkley's water supply that threatens the health of an entire community. She finds that PG&E is responsible for the extensive illnesses that the residents of Hinkley have been diagnosed with and fights to bring the company to justice.
Erin meets a mysterious man in a bar who claimed to Erin to have destroyed documents at PG&E, and discovers a 1966 document that ties a conversation of a corporate executive in the San Francisco PG&E headquarters to the Hinkley station that knew the water was contaminated but didn't do anything about it and advised to keep it a secret from the Hinkley neighborhood. The evidence was examined by a judge without a jury and PG&E was ordered to pay a settlement amount of $333 million that was divided among the plaintiffs.

Assignment 1

hello, my name is Philip Valderhaug!
I am 16 years old. born and raised in Baerum, Norway and enjoy living here.
I have a lot of things i like to do, mainly different things within music, like writing, performing and other stuff.
Last year I attended Bleiker High School, my subjects there was built around music, how to write, performing with others and solo performance. We also had Math, English and the other usual subjects.
I changed school to Sandvika because it is a lot closer to my home than my last school, and i hope i will enjoy it a little more than the last school. Here I have chosen to continue with English through my second year of high school. i hope it will be fun, i hope to learn new ways to express what i mean in English. I hope there will be a lot of oral presentations since that is what i prefer. My expectations this year is very simple, i expect to learn more about the English language and how to use it.
